Fall sports weekly recap: September 21-26

North Hills girls' tennis team
Matthew McGinnis

We have reached the end of September, and the teams at North Hills are about halfway through their regular season schedules. Here's a look at where they stand after last week's action:

Golf

Last Monday was the sectional qualifier for the boys' golf team. North Hills golfers came up just shy of the target score of 78, ending the individual stage of the season. The boys will wrap up their team schedule with matches this week.

Girls' Tennis

After clinching a spot in the 3A WPIAL team playoffs, the girls' tennis team went 1-0 last week with a 4-1 win over Plum. They will tackle their last two section matches, as well as the section doubles tournament, this week.

Girls' Soccer

The girls' soccer team came away with one loss and one tie last week, conceding only two goals between the games against North Allegheny and Allderdice. The girls now own an overall record of 2-6-1 this season.

Boys' Soccer

Two weeks ago, the boys' soccer team saw its unbeaten streak snapped, but last week, the boys got back on track. They battled back from a two-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 draw on the road against North Allegheny before shutting out Moon later in the week. The team can move one step closer to clinching a playoff spot this week in its game against Butler.

Cross Country

The varsity cross country teams ran in the section championship preview at North Park last week ahead of the section championship race next week. This week, they will run against Shaler Area and Seneca Valley.

Girls' Volleyball

The girls' volleyball team posted a 2-1 record last week, including a 1-1 record in section play. Entering this week, North Hills is in fourth place in Class 5A Section 1, which would put them in the playoffs if the season ended today.

Football

Last Friday featured the first section game of the season for the varsity football team. North Hills defeated Penn Hills 43-9 to move to 4-0 on the season. Their next opponent will be Norwin in a non-section contest.

This week's home and away events can be found on the North Hills Athletics website.
