North Hills, North Allegheny unite for community food drive ahead of rivalry game

For the first time in 13 years, North Hills and North Allegheny will meet again on the football field Friday, August 28.

But before kickoff, the two schools will be on the same team.

The North Hills and North Allegheny cheerleading teams are joining together to host a canned food and cash donation drive benefiting North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) using the excitement surrounding the return of the rivalry to help local families.

From 6-7 p.m. outside of Newman Stadium at North Allegheny, cheerleaders from both schools will collect canned food and cash donations from fans arriving for the game.

The first 100 fans from each school who donate two or more cans or make a cash donation of $5 or more will receive a pom-pom shaker in their team’s colors.

Everyone who makes a canned food or monetary donation will also be entered for a chance to win a $250 Juniper Grill gift card. The winner will be announced at halftime and must be present to win.

“There’s going to be a lot of excitement around this game,” said Kaylee Kenz, North Allegheny Head Cheer Coach. “We thought, why not take some of that energy and use it to help our community.”

Every can and every dollar collected will go to North Hills Community Outreach, supporting its work with individuals and families throughout the area.

Fans who would like to contribute before game night can also make a monetary donation directly to North Hills Community Outreach at nhco.org/donate.
